The Entomological and Natural History Museum

 
This houses a collection of over 26 000 pieces which are divided into different areas: entomology, paleontology, malacology and ornithology. The collection has been put together by Guido Castillo over a period of 20 years.
Monte Grande  Rural School House
This was declared a National Monument in 1979. It is located in Monte Grande, a town made up of one long street, a characteristic of the inland villages and towns. This is where you will find the School House and Post Office where Gabriela Mistral spent part of her childhood, taught by her sister, teacher and the Mail Mistress. 
It is small and has a beautiful playground over the river Elqui. Nowadays it is a well kept museum.
Gabriela Mistral Museum
The building was designed by Oscar McClure. It houses the archives, library, paintings, prizes and personal objects belonging to the Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral (Nobel Prize winner). 
Gabriela Mistral  Family House
This was declared a National Monument in 1969. It is located in the town of Vicuña, just 62 km east of La Serena. It is the birthplace of the poet who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1945. It contains furniture, photographs, domestic objects, prizes and souvenirs of her life and work. 
The Mausoleum of Gabriela Mistral 
It was declared a National Monument in 1961 and is situated in Monte Grande on a rocky promontory with a view of the whole valley. It is the burial place of Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957) and bears a headstone with her will inscribed on it.
