Ojos del Salado Volcano
It is located 280 kilometres northeast of Copiapó along the Ruta Internacional Paso San Francisco.
It stands out because it is 6 893 metres above sea level which means that it is one of the highest points in the Andes Mountain range. In fact, this characteristic makes it an important challenge for climbers.
Given its altitude, the flora and fauna in the area are scare, the wind is strong and temperatures are extremely low, both in summer and winter, especially at night, when they drop to as low as -10°C.
The volcano has two mountain refuges which enable climbers to access it. The first one is situated at 5 100 metres and the second one is at 5 750 metres.
