How to get to San Pedro de Atacama?

Those who wish to undertake the adventure of driving from Santiago should take Ruta 5 – the Panamerican Highway North.

You are recommended to do the trip in two legs, stopping at Caldera (870 kms) or Bahía Inglesa and then continuing the next day direct to Calama (another 800 kms), where you can stock up with all you will need to take to San Pedro.
