Attractions around Chonchi
Lemuy Island
Located opposite Chonchi. To get there you need to take the south road to Queilén that borders the channel until Puerto Huichas, where you need to take a ferry to Puerto Chulchuy, on Lemuy island. You can visit the church of Ichuac, the town of Aldachildo and its chapel.
Church of Vilupulli
Located in the town of Vilupulli, its patron saint is San Antonio de Padua, and its fiesta takes place on 13 June. It was built at the beginning of the 20th Century and is noticeable because of its slim tower.
In 1971 it was declared a National Monument, and in 2000 it gained the title World Heritage site.
Aldachildo
This is a small town on Lemuy island, and one of the oldest towns of the area. The chapel of Aldachildo is a World Heritage site. In February you can visit various places where farmers make apple chicha (a corn liquor) in wooden machines.
Church of Aldachildo
Located on Lemuy island, in the town of Aldachildo, the patron saint of this church is Jesus of Nazareth and its fiesta takes place on 30 August.
It’s believed to have been built in 1910 and is categorized as a chapel. In 1999 it was declared a National Monument and in December of 2000 it was declared a World Heritage site.
Church of Ichuac
Located on Lemuy island, in the town of Ichuac, the patron saint of this church is the Virgen de la Candelaria, and its fiesta takes place on 2 February.
The church, built at the beginning of the 20th Century, is in a good state of repair, thanks to the maintenance the community has carried out.
The church was declared a National Monument in 1999, and a World Heritage site by UNESCO in December 2000.
Church of Chelín
Located on the island of Chelín, in the town of the same name. The church’s patron saint is Our Lady of the Rosary and the celebration in her honor takes place on 30 August. The church was restored in 1990, and is now in a good state of repair.
It was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in June of 2001.
